Protesting government staff decide to stage road roko today

Members of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees’ Joint Federation, which is an umbrella of 68 associations, will continue their protest to put forward their demands, including scrapping of Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and filling up of vacancies in various departments.
With Thursday being their second day of strike from work the federation members have decided to stage a road roko on Friday at the Vellore district headquarters.
About 4,000 employees, including anganwadi staff, block development officers and tahsildars, are taking part in the ongoing protests, affecting the functioning of various departments.
Among their main demands was to scrap the CPS and implement the old pension scheme, M. Gajendran, district president of Tamil Nadu Revenue Officers Association, Vellore said.
“We are also demanding filling up of vacancies in all departments such as revenue, rural development, commercial taxes, treasury, registration and health. We also want the government to announce a minimum pension of Rs. 3,500 per month for staff of anganwadi centres,” he added.
On Thursday, they raised slogans on the premises of the Collector’s office.
